Æbleskiver - pronounced EB-el-sku-wyr, a Danish word meaning apple slice.Traditional Danish spherical pastry, somewhat similar in taste and texture to an American pancake, but light and fluffy like a popover. Æbleskiver are cooked on the stove top in an æbleskiver pan.Æbleskiver are traditionally filled with a slice of apple, but can be made to suit a range of tastes from sweet to savory, and are often topped with syrup, jam or applesauce.Considered a specialty bakeware item, the 9 holes or wells are filled with batter and as it starts cooking, the chef uses a chopstick or knitting needle to "turn" it into a ball.
